COP+23 International Climate Change Program
United Nations Climate Conference COP23, Bonn, Germany
We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change, and the last generation that can do something about it.
COP+23 International Climate Change Program is part of the COP Program (2015-2030) launched during UN Paris Climate Summit, COP21, France.
COP+23 Program 2017-18 is in sync with the long term UNFCCC objectives as well as Fiji’s Vision for Presidency of COP23. The initiative consists of lectures, short-term courses, Talanoa Sessions, the Environ Truck, events and workshops.
COP23 is a very special conference; to be convened under the Presidency of Fiji in 2017- the success of this COP hinges on the spirit of joint action.
At COP20 Lima, the world deliberated upon how climate change will change lives across the world.
At COP21 Paris, about 200 countries unanimously agreed to mitigate and adapt to the changing climate.
By the time COP22 Marrakech came along, the Paris Agreement on climate change was already ratified – and the roadmap for its implementation began to take shape.
The same spirit of joint action which made Paris Agreement a reality in 2015 – laid bruised and battered in early 2017.
In 2017, United States of America backed out of the Paris Agreement – the very agreement the country had successfully championed just two years ago.
Therefore, COP23 is a very special conference; the success of this COP hinges on reinforcing the spirit of joint action.
